Radioactive Colloidal Gold(Au^(198)) Uptake and Photoscanning of the Rats Liver Fed with High and Low Protein Diets

Abstract
It is easily assumed that there could be certain morphological as well as functional differences in the livers of the Asian and the Westerner who consume considerably different amount of fat and protein.
Therefore, the author ir_tended to investigate the differences of the function and the size of rat livers fed with high and low protein diets.
The total number of experimental animals was 87. Of these, 45 rats were fed with high protein diet while 42 were fed with low protein diet. They .were fed for 87~~48 days before the examination.
Five microcuries of radioactive colloidal gold were injected through the vein of the rats¢¥ tails.
Liver upl;ake (C. P. M. )was investigated by using fine focus collimeter (85 hole collimeter) and broad fo~:us collimates (19 hole collimeter) and the liver area was estimated by antero-posterior and lateral photoscannings. The scanner was Picker-Magna Scanner V.
The results were as follows:
1. Then uptake of Au199 in rat livers fed with high protein diet was 4, 71874.7 C. P. M. with fine focus collimeter and 7, 689129.8 C. P. M. with broad focus collimeter.
2. The; uptake of Au198 in rat livers fed with low protein diet was 4,11093.1 C. P. M. with fine focus collimeter and 6, 855 134.4 C. P. M. with broad focus collimeter. When compared with these of the high protein diet group, they were significantly low (P <0.O1) : the difference beins 608 C. P. ~1. with fine focus collimeter and 834 C. P. M, with broad focus collimetzr respectively.
3. The uptake rates of both groups, in terms cf experimental feeding periods, revealed significant decreases as the feeding periods were polenged (P<0.001). Significant differences were also noticed with Various feeding periods i~etween the two groups (P <0.001).
4. No remarkable differences were noted in the auiss uptake rates between mate andfemale rats.
5. The area of rat livers estimated from photoscan fed with high protein diet was 13.00.9 cmz both in antero-posterior and lateral areas.
6. The area of rat livers esti^iated from photoscan fed with low protein diet ,vas 12.5 U.2cm¢¥-¢¥ in antero-posterior area and 12.20.3cm in lateral area. Compared with those of the high protein diet group, this group revealed slightly smaller area of the liver.
7. There was no remarkable differences in the liver areas by the different fending periods anti sex.
